ABSTRACT We have studied the effects of chronic treatment with captopril (angiotensin-converting enzyme ínhibitor, ACEI) on the secretion of the subcorn missural organ (SCO) of the adult male mouse using immunohistochemistry for AFRU (antibody anti-Reissner's fiber, Rodriguez et al., 1994). Three groups of 5 animals each -a control group and 2 experimental groups- were used. The experimental groups received captopril in their drinking water frorn postnatal day 55 at adose of 1 mg!kg body weight in experimental group 1 (CAP-1), and 4 mg!kg body weight in experimental group 11(CAP-4). Captopril adrninistration at adose of 1 mg!kg did not alter the amount of AFRU immunoreactive material (AFRU-ir) in the SCO, but captopril administration at adose of 4 mg!kg elicited a significant decrease in the SCO AFRU-ir material.

Keywords: Captopríl - AFRU immunohistoche mistry - subcommissural organ.
